In the first four months of 2024, China’s textile and apparel exports reached a total of $89.844 billion, marking a modest year-on-year increase of 0.3%. The latest statistical data from 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities across mainland China reveal that Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Shandong, and Fujian lead the nation in textile and apparel exports, collectively accounting for over 70% of the total export value.
Western and Central Provinces Boost Export Growth
According to the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Textile Industry Branch, the western and central provinces have shown impressive growth in the textile sector. High-level development and increased competitiveness have led to stable growth in textile and apparel exports from these regions. From January to April 2024, the 12 western provinces and regions exported textiles and apparel worth $9.52 billion, a significant increase of 28.7% year-on-year. Notably, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region saw a 48.2% increase in textile and apparel exports, totaling $2.15 billion. In the central region, Hubei Province reported a substantial 36% increase in exports, reaching $1.6 billion.
Yarn and Fabric Exports Highlight Regional Performance
The latest report from the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textiles (CCCT) highlights the performance of key provinces in yarn and fabric exports. Despite declines in provinces like Zhejiang and Fujian, Hubei’s yarn exports grew steadily. In the first quarter of 2024, Hubei’s yarn exports increased by 8.8% year-on-year, with a further growth of 9.6% in the first four months.
Fabric exports also showed remarkable growth, particularly from Guangxi and Anhui. Guangxi’s fabric exports surged by 57.3% in the first quarter and continued to grow by 39.6% in the first four months of 2024. Similarly, Anhui’s fabric exports increased by 28.6% in the first quarter and by 22.3% in the first four months.
The home textiles sector also experienced rapid growth, with Hubei and Fujian leading the way. Shandong Province reported an 8% year-on-year increase in home textile exports from January to April 2024.
In apparel exports, Guangxi and Hubei demonstrated substantial growth. From January to April 2024, Guangxi’s apparel exports grew by 52.3%, while Hubei’s increased by 48.3%. These figures underscore the effectiveness of recent policies aimed at bolstering the textile and apparel industry in China’s central and western regions.
Conclusion
The first four months of 2024 have seen a steady overall growth in China’s textile and apparel exports, driven by significant contributions from the western and central provinces. As these regions continue to enhance their competitiveness and expand their market presence, China’s textile and apparel sector is poised for sustained growth. This positive trend highlights the dynamic nature of the industry and the successful regional development strategies in place.
